Ed Sheeran Reveals Wife Cherry Had Cancer While Pregnant: “That Was the Worst Week of My Life”

Ed Sheeran has finally opened up in full about one of the scariest moments of his life — the day his wife Cherry Seaborn called him to say she had been diagnosed with cancer. The 35-year-old “Shape of You” singer shared the emotional story on the Friends Keep Secrets podcast, and the details are heartbreaking.

“Cherry rang me up and said she had cancer,” Ed revealed. “That was probably the worst day” — and the worst week — of his life, made even more devastating because it happened around the same time his close friend and collaborator Jamal Edwards died from cardiac arrhythmia.

She Was Pregnant When She Got the Diagnosis

What made the situation even more terrifying was the timing. Cherry received the cancer diagnosis while she was pregnant with the couple’s second daughter, Jupiter. Doctors had to wait until after she gave birth before they could operate to remove the tumor.

“She had the operation to remove the tumor after she’d given birth to our second child,” Ed said, admitting it was “f***ing scary” to go through. “And thankfully, she’s totally fine.”

Now She Is Fine — And Ed Credits His Wedding Day as His Best

Despite the terrifying chapter, Cherry came through surgery successfully and has been cancer-free since. When asked about his best day ever, Ed didn’t hesitate: “My wedding day.” The couple married in 2019 and share two daughters, Lyra, 5, and Jupiter, 3.
